In developed countries such as the US , Canada and UK a computer-related injury is recognized as an occupational hazard.
The precise cost of occupational MSDs is not known. Estimates vary depending on the method used. A conservative estimate previously published by NIOSH is $13 billion annually [NIOSH 1996].
15-25% of all computer users worldwide (vocational and recreational) are estimated to have CRIs. These include students, senior citizens and casual users of the computer.
